HiSET Home Study Program

HiSET Home Study Program                               2020 - 2021

The HiSET Home Study Program is designed to support working adults and adults who can not attend regular classroom sessions with the skills needed for completion of the High School Equivalency Test.

Fall Registration: Step 1: Attend  orientation and assessment. See the Orientation Schedule by clicking the blue orientation tab on the left side of this page. Step 2: Fill out registration paper work and get a student ID number. Step 3: Complete assessment test to determine program placement.  Step 4: Once placement level is determined, your will be place in the appropriate class or on a waiting list .Step 4:  If you are enrolled Obtain your start date for your program. Orientations start on time, NO student will be allowed to enter an orientation after it has begun. 

HiSET Distance Learning will be offered at both our Hill St campus (mornings and afternoons only) and our Willow St. campus                ( mornings, afternoons and evenings) during the 20 - 21 school year.

, Office hours are Monday - Thursday 9 am - 7:00 pm  and     Friday 9 am - 4:00 pm.

                                                                                                                                 Fall semester classes begin Sept 8, 2020 - Jan 21, 2021

Orientation is required before you can start class. If you miss your class orientation you will be dropped.

Registration for Spring semester begins:  Feb 1,2021 - May 28,2021

Students will take assessment tests to determine their current reading level, academic strengths and areas of need. A ninth grade reading level is required for the program( 241 CASAS score or higher). Students not meeting the ninth grade reading level will be referred to our ABE program to build their skills and then transition back to the HiSET Home Studies  program.Next, students will be assigned content specific coursework through Work Packets to build their skills.

How it Works

  1. Register for Long Beach School for Adults, attend Orientation and Assessment. Complete all registration steps and take assessments.To qualify for the Home Studies program you must score a 241 or above on the Reading assessment test.
  2. Attend instructor's office hours.
  3. Pinpoint your strengths & weaknesses by taking 5 subject pre-tests
  4. Review areas to study
  5. Check out Work Packets 
  6. Complete the Work Packets and on-line lessons at home
  7. Meet with your Instructor weekly to review and  correct your work
  8. Check out the next set of Work Packets
  9. Take the “Official HiSET Practice Test”
  10. Register to take the HiSET Exam!
